We recently appointed our first ever Alumni Trustee! Nabhan Moore joined LTSB’s Business & Finance programme in 2017 and has since built a career working as an accountant in the legal sector. His new role will be pivotal in bringing the voice of young people to the forefront of our decision-making, as he also heads up our Youth Board as their Chair.
We asked him some questions about what his hopes are for the next two years!
1. Tell us about yourself! What has been your journey since being on the LTSB programme?
My journey since being on the LTSB programme has been incredibly transformative. Before joining LTSB, I worked as a takeaway delivery driver, but my aspirations were always set higher. Through the support and guidance provided by LTSB, I transitioned into being a finance professional now working in the legal sector. The programme equipped me with the skills, confidence, and network to pursue my ambitions. Today, I am honored to say that I have achieved a level of professional success that I once only dreamed of, and I am committed to using my experiences to inspire and assist others.
2. Why did you apply to be LTSB’s Alumni Trustee?
I applied to be LTSB’s Alumni Trustee because I believe deeply in the mission of LTSB and have personally witnessed its impact. The programme played a crucial role in my professional development, and I wanted to give back to the community that supported me. As a Trustee and Chair of the Alumni Youth Board, I have the opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction of LTSB, ensuring it continues to empower young people from under-represented backgrounds in professional roles. It is a way for me to leverage my experiences and insights to enhance the programme and support the next generation of leaders.
3. What are you most looking forward to in the role?
In this role, I am most looking forward to collaborating with a dedicated team of individuals who share a passion for youth development and leadership. I am excited to bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to the table, driving initiatives that will further enhance the LTSB experience for future cohorts. Additionally, I look forward to mentoring and supporting young professionals, helping them navigate their career paths as I once did. The opportunity to influence and shape the future of LTSB is both a privilege and a responsibility that I eagerly embrace.
4. Why do you think it’s important to have youth representation at board level?
Having youth representation at board level is crucial for several reasons. Young people bring a unique perspective, innovative thinking, and a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by their peers. Their insights can drive more relevant and effective policies and programmes. Additionally, youth representation ensures that decisions made at the board level are inclusive and reflective of the demographic that the organisation serves. It empowers young leaders to have a voice in shaping their futures, fostering a sense of ownership and accountability.
5. What do you hope to achieve with your fellow Youth Board members?
With my fellow Youth Board members, I hope to create a dynamic and supportive community that champions the ambitions of young professionals. Together, we aim to develop initiatives that provide greater access to opportunities, mentorship, and resources for LTSB participants. Our goal is to build a network that not only supports career development but also personal growth. By working collaboratively, we can ensure that the LTSB programme continues to evolve and meet the needs of future generations, empowering them to achieve their dreams just as it did for me.
