Programme Manager (Central London)

Thank you for considering working with us at LTSB!

Our Programme Managers are the main point of contact for young people on our social mobility programmes. The main focus of the role is the recruitment, development and support of young people into meaningful careers.

Programme Managers create recruitment networks in their areas and lead bootcamps to improve their employability (e.g. interview techniques) and to enhance their personal and leadership abilities (e.g. critical thinking). Once young people are hired, Programme Managers use their established relationship to provide pastoral care and in-work support.

LTSB’s vision is: a world where all young people can choose their careers, with an emphasis on improving the lives of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. The successful candidate will have a proven commitment to improving the lives of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, and they have an excellent understanding of social mobility, diversity and inclusion issues, and how these factors impact young people.

Location

LTSB does not have its own offices, so you will work remotely within central London, with regular travel around London, as well as occasion travel to our city hubs Birmingham, Liverpool, London, and Manchester. This role requires an Enhanced Level DBS Disclosure as part of the recruitment process.

It is an exciting time to join the charity as we progress through the third year of our ambitious five year strategy. If you are passionate about social mobility and motivated by supporting young people living in some of the UK’s most deprived areas, this could be the charity for you!

Joe’s Story

Joe joined one of our first Liverpool Business bootcamps in 2018, and now he's a manager at BDO and a member of our Alumni Innovation Committee.

“Before joining LTSB, I knew I wanted to jump straight into my chosen career rather than spending years in college or sixth form. I was determined to find first-hand experience through an apprenticeship, though I kept college in the back of my mind as a fallback. But I really wanted to get my foot in the door as soon as possible.

“The LTSB bootcamp was a game-changer for me. It provided essential transferable skills that set me up for success. From crafting my first official CV to mastering interview techniques and getting a real sense of what it’s like to work in accounting offices, LTSB prepared me for my role as an SSC Audit Assistant at BDO. The support and guidance were invaluable, giving me the confidence to excel in the workplace.

“Since starting as an assistant, I’ve progressed to a team leader, managing a group of up to 15 people. LTSB didn’t just help me start my career—they’ve been there every step of the way, even after the course ended. The skills I gained are applicable beyond just finance or business, making LTSB a fantastic choice for anyone looking to jumpstart their career in the corporate world.”

Gugan’s Story

Gugan joined the Birmingham Law bootcamp in 2023, and now she's working at No 5 Barristers' Chambers as a Barrister's Clerk.

“Before joining LTSB, I was in my gap year, struggling to figure out my next steps. University didn’t feel like the right path for me, and I was unsure of how to gain the work experience I needed. I didn’t have the connections or the skills to really stand out, and I was feeling pretty lost about my future.

“I didn’t expect LTSB to make such a big difference, but it turned out to be exactly what I needed. Unlike other work experiences, LTSB was tailored to me. The bootcamp gave me confidence and helped me perfect my interview skills through one-on-one sessions. With their support, I landed a role as a Junior Barristers Clerk at No5 Chambers. They helped me build a strong network and a standout CV that got me noticed.

“Since starting my job, I’ve experienced rapid growth and developed a real passion for my career. I’m more confident and motivated than ever. LTSB made a huge impact on my life, and I’m so grateful for their continued support even after the bootcamp ended. I highly recommend LTSB to anyone needing experience and guidance in starting their career. It’s been the best work experience I’ve ever had.”

Tyresse’s Story

Tyresse joined the London Business bootcamp in 2023, and now he's doing a marketing apprenticeship with the Post Office!

At school, Tyresse was surrounded by negative influences and was looking for a way to break out. He wanted more for his future, so when he saw someone a few years older than him doing an apprenticeship, it seemed like the perfect path – “she was always going on holiday – I wanted that lifestyle too!”

“When I was in college, I didn’t like the concept of going to uni”, he remembers. “People struggle to find jobs after and go into debt. I didn’t want to put myself through that”. When a friend referred him to LTSB, he knew he had to apply.

“I was also confident because my friend got an actual apprenticeship with LTSB”, he recalls, “so I thought I’d give it a go”.

At the start of the bootcamp, Tyresse was very quiet, and lacked the confidence to participate as much as he wanted.

“I started a shy and introverted person with small expectation of what to come from the programme. It’s hard for me to open up and trust someone I’ve never met before, but as time went on, I decided to just go for it and watched myself almost metamorphose into a confident, outspoken and friendly person.”

Through LTSB, he got an interview for an apprenticeship at Post Office and was successful in landing the role!

He now reflects on what he believes is possible for other young people like him. “My mindset before was that a young black person couldn’t work in big-name brands – so it made me feel like anything is actually possible. People should not have a limit on that!”
