Hays Recruitment are LTSB’s recruitment partner and champions of the charity, and over the past month Hays staff have been engaging with our cohorts across the country.

In London, our Chelsea cohort were invited to a fantastic insight day at the New Malden offices to hear about the different roles open to them as accounting apprentices. John Harrington, Finance Director of Hays UK, designed a varied programme, including a one-to-one interview for every young person and Q&A sessions with employees from different departments.

In Manchester, the cohort attended an interview skills and CV writing workshop run by Hays volunteers Emma Pasquill and Elizabeth Hancock, giving a chance to gain valuable advice from a recruiter’s point of view.

Reflecting on the day, student Chloe Smith said, “I found it extremely useful as I will be attending many interviews soon and the support we got from the ladies at Hays really helped me gain a lot of confidence”, adding that the advice they received “really went into detail about the things we would need to get the best career and create the best impression to any employer.”

Meanwhile in Liverpool, Hays staff Olivia Maufe and Elizabeth Hancock led the day’s programme, including tasking the young people with devising and performing their 30 second ‘elevator pitch’, which addressed the challenge of making that all important lasting first impression.

LTSB participant Zane Salmon found that despite pushing him out of his comfort zone “it has improved my confidence and communication skills”. He continued, “I’ve been left with a lot of food for thought and I’m feeling positive that I’m on the right path and look forward to the future.”

LTSB is enormously grateful to Hays for their ongoing support which has empowered our young people and developed the essential skills they will need to succeed in their interviews. A special thank you goes to all the staff, including Karen Young, those mentioned above and many more, who gave up many hours of their time work with our students.
